Reducing Gun Violence By Healing Trauma

Violence is a public health crisis and we need to heal our whole community from the ground up. Everyday people are walking around infected with the disease of violence. People are not at ease with the violence that is taking place inside of our communities. With increasing rates of gun violence the future of our children are at stake- if we don’t take action now!

How do you ask, by healing trauma “Racial Trauma”

Being black in America has caused black people to operate with a level of racial trauma. Trauma is a haunting pain, like a ghost who has taken up residence in a specific area of a house. The weight of race can be debilitating and antagonizing as you operate in a world that sees the color of your skin as a factor in how you’re perceived. For healing to happen, we must consistently and openly express our past injustices. Speaking on various topics of injustices allows for our frustrations, sorrow, and loneliness an opportunity to heal. But more than that, it allows us to connect emotionally and heal from our past as well. Collective trauma is a real concern, and as we become more clear that it is, we have to recognize that we cannot ‘one-on-one’ therapy our way out of this mental health crisis. We need the funding to go to the organizations who are already doing the work ― those who show up without the dollars, on the streets, in the churches, and at the barbershops, because they believe in our people. Not because they are trying to grab ahold of and exploit a cultural moment to make themselves look good. Let’s start with a reflective view of one’s self and start really living insied of Agape love!
